  • This artwork is painted over unstretched canvas... Cú Chulainn was a demigod and young legendary hero in Irish mythology, known for his outbursts of rage popularly known as “Warp spams” which transformed him into a phenomenal warrior.

I was first introduced to Cú Chulainn during my undergrad years, while reading the Táin Bó Cúailnge (Irish mythology). According to the Celtic Encyclopedia (1998 edition), this young hero was of short stature, dark-skinned, handsome, with “three distinct heads of hair – brown at the base, blood-red in the middle, and a crown of golden yellow. This hair was settled strikingly into three coils […] Each long loose-flowing strand hung down in shining splendor over his shoulders […] red-gold curls shone darkly on his neck. He had four dimples in each cheek and seven bright pupils, eye-jewels. Each foot had seven toes and each hand seven fingers.”

In reference to his death, the story goes like this: "Lugaid saw his chance and threw the final spear. This time it hit Cú Chulainn on his side. The great warrior knew he was about to die. He dragged himself to a nearby standing boulder and with his cloak, tied himself upright facing his enemies. No one dared approach him for three days. Finally, when they saw a raven land on his shoulder, his enemies knew he was dead."
