This artwork is part of the series, “Love in the Time of Covid”, which was exhibited in Adams Morgan, Washington D.C. in February 2021.
The collection was inspired by conversations Dariana had with various people in her community. The titles of the artworks were directly taken from these conversations.
When viewed as a whole, the collection Love In The Time Of Covid, appears to the eye as a surreal collage that weaves individual experiences and desires, into a whole communal novella.
This painting took inspiration from a woman in Adams Morgan... This woman told the artist that she stopped having sexual desire for her husband, after childbirth. And so the story goes, the husband wanted to make love to his wife, but continually got rejected.
During the summer of 2020, Dariana met with friends and heard another similar story: a woman who was into the habit of refusing love-making with her partner, as punishment for behaviors she found upsetting... When the artist asked the male companion who was present during the conversation, what he thought of such practice, he smilied and gently replied, "I'm not worried about that; I was married for over 20 years and my wife tried the same practice after childbirth... I found strategies to survive."
